Sparkle and Shine : Challenge 4

Finally I have a few days to breathe. Just submitted slides for a paper presentation last night, and guess I have the presentation today. But at least no coding due, right now. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of coding to be done, still hoping for the day that my app starts to look like an app. And I have to get started on studying for my midterm. But before I get to all that, let me share my entry to the Sparkle and Shine challenge. This challenge was a sketch.

I initially made a flowery shaker card to enter into this challenge, but then I thought that I have been making too many flower cards and challenged myself to make something a little more masculine/boyish.

As I was trying to make this card masculine, I thought sequins were a tab bit girly, esp all the colors I have, but added some "sparkle and shine" using rhinestones and silly eyes embellies from Pretty Pink Posh. I used matching scrap papers left over from a banner, and the little monsters are from the monster mash stamp set from Lawn Fawn. (shout out to Laurie at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames for special ordering them for me :D, I love the customer service that I get there!).

I stamped the monsters onto some water color paper using black stazon ink. Then I colored them in using distress markers and a water brush pen. After they dried, I fussy cut them, added the silly eye embellies and sequins using multi medium matte and rhinestones, then stuck them onto the card stock using foam tape. The little banner that I added was created by sticking washi tape onto some scrap paper and punching out using my ek success pennant punch. Then stuck them on using some glue. Lastly, I added the layers onto the card base using my ATG and added a sentiment from the same stamp set as the monster stamps.

Sparkle and Shine : Challenge 7

For the first time in a long time I am actually okay that today is a Monday. My class was canceled and I just have my take home left to do and  my final presentation and then its time to PARTY! And blog! I have a ton of fun posts coming up featuring lots of new products that I have gotten my hands on, but are still in their original packaging!

I thought that I would pop in and share some card ideas while I took a break! In between studying I made a few cards using the Sparkle and Shine Challenge photo as inspiration. I didn't know which one I liked best, so I'm posting all of them and you can chose. I did my usual minimum product usage, sticking to one stamp set and a few markers and inks.

I ended up using mainly watercolors, so I decided to link up to the Pretty Pink Posh Watercolor Blog Hop too, especially after my last post got so much attention, thank you all for commenting! I will get back to you personally as soon as I am done with school!

As I mentioned I used a limited list of supplies:

  • Lawn Fawn's Blissful Botanicals
  • Distress Markers in cracked pistachio, mermaid lagoon, peacock feathers, picked raspberry, abandoned coral, ripe persimmon and mowed lawn.
  • Watercolor paper
  • VersaMark Ink, embossing powder, heat gun, fussy cutting scissors and PPP sequins

For the first card I created a background by stamping and embossing with white powder, when "painting" it and creating an ombre effect.

To finish off I added a die cut sentiment from Ben Franklin (#567), cut from a glitter paper and added a few PPP sequins.

The next card was a little bit more work, I used the butterfly stamp from the set in versamark ink and embossed with a shade of blue powders. Then I used a waterbrush pen to color it in and yet again create an ombre effect. And then fussy cut!

After sticking the butterfly to the cardbase using 3M foam tape, I used multi medium matte to add a few sequins to add a little sparkle!

Save the best for last, right? This one used a little bit more color and a lot more fussy cutting! I stamped a lot of the flowers and leaves with versamark ink and embossed with gold powder and then colored them using a waterbrush pen and distress markers, The background was created similar to the first card.

Once the fussy cutting was done, I adhered to the flowers using 3M foam tape and sequins using multi medium matte. While typing this I realized that I didn't had a sentiment, but I guess now I can use it for any occasion!

Thanks for joining me today! Back to the grind, 5 days till I'm done :)

Sparkle and Shine : Challenge 5

With my book report out of the way and my class cancelled, I got a bit of time to craft and get my entry for the Sparkle and Shine challenge in just in time! This time the inspiration was a photo.

While staring at the photo I realized that I have been hoarding a bunch of stickers that are spring themed for a project that I started last summer and never finished! Finger's crossed I'll finish it soon :) And this sticker stuck out to me. As I don't have a boot stamp and didn't want to but one, I decided to cut it up and add some stamping to it. (the sticker is from this set from pebbles that I got at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames)

The flower stamps that I used are from a really old Martha Stewart set (actually its my first stamp set ever!) and the I used my new ombre inks (red to pink for the sentiment and flowers, and green to mint for the stems and leaves). The sentiment is from the Fanciful Flowers stamp set from Newton's Nook Designs.

And as always, a finishing touch was added with some Pretty Pink Posh sequins.

That's a wrap for today, hope you liked my card and I am headed back to the books, programs unfortunately do not code themselves.

Sparkle and Shine : Challenge 6

Sometimes you just need to pause life and have some me time. That is what I did yesterday, before meetings, applications and house chores, I crafted. Well, I made a card, a really simple one, but it still gave me a break away from all the craziness that I am having to keep up with...Less than three weeks. I CAN DO THIS.

Okay, back to the card, I created it using this photo inspiration from the Sparkle and Shine Challenge. I recently ventured into the bead section of my favorite craft store, Ben Franklin Craft and Frames and found me some seed beads. They were on sale, so I bought them not having a clue what to do with them, but once I saw the inspiration for this challenge, I knew exactly what to make, a shaker card!

I used stamps from Newton's Nook Designs, Versatile Vases, stamped in memento tuxedo black ink and my Spectrum Noir Pinks and Greens markers to color the flowers in. No shading or fancy stuff, just colored.

To create the shaker mason jar, I fussy cut the inside of the jar very careful, then added a layer of acetate and double layer of 3M foam tape to make sure that the beads will actually shake! The backing for the shaker card is scrap piece of water color paper colored with mermaid lagoon distress marker.

To finish off the card, I added a sentiment from an older set and some washi tape from my mind's eye.

Hope that you all have a wonderful long weekend, I am off to spend it with out of town guests exploring the city!

Sparkle and Shine : Challenge 2

Did you know that I have an obcession with paper crafts. I love anything and everything to do with paper, stamping to die cutting, embossing to water coloring. So when I found out about card challenges out there, I was so amused and had to try my hand at it! Here is my second installment to the Sparkle and Shine Challenge. This time the inspiration was a sketch.

Using that and my current obcession with embossing on kraft paper, I came up with this.

This card is pretty loaded. Embossing, fussy cutting, sequins, stamping, washi tape and paper. Let's not forget the twine!

There is plenty a dimension with the wreath raised with some foam tape, and the tag is also raised with foam tape.

Just another look, tried out mememto ink on kraft and loved it!

Sparkle and Shine : Challenge 3

I'm back again, slowly getting back into the flow of things, between spring break and the long weekend, I have become very lazy! As I have to get back to coding, I am going to get straight to the point, this time the challenge over at Sparkle and Shine was to create a card inspired by this picture.

Here is what I came up with...

Excuse the bad pictures, I just couldn't get the lighting right with the white background of the card.

The "Happy Anniversary" sentiment stamp is from DeNami Designs, the sequins are from Pretty Pink Posh (I used both the 4mm and the 6mm Spring Mix), I used a Martha Stewart leaf punch that I cut up into individual leaves, and an EK Success Mini Flower punch set for the flowers. I adhered the flowers and leaves using thinned down Tacky glue and the Multi Media Matte for the sequins.

That's it for today! I'll be back before the end of the week with another challenge card so stay tuned and follow along for updates!

Sparkle and Shine : Challenge 1

Considering the amount of time that I spend in the blogger-sphere, I am really surprised that I hadn't heard on this crafting challenges till now! Now that I know, I thought I'd give this new Sparkle and Shine Challenge a try. Its sponsored by one of my favorite, local NW bloggers, Pretty Pink Posh. She is known as the Sequin Queen and I love her ideas, thanks to her blog I have actually started using all the sequins that I have been hoarding.

The inspiration for this challenge was as follows :

In an attempt to not go out and buy more products to hoard, I decided to work with that I already had, and came up with this.

And added a matching sentiment inside.

Just a little up close look.

Blogger View: Pretty Pink Posh

Time for another round of BloggerView, this time I got to learn a little bit more about Paulina, the blogger behind Pretty Pink Posh. I cannot remember which social media platform I first came across her, but now I cannot imagine card making without her expertise! And if you have been following my blog, then you might have noticed that I have been taking part in a card challenge over at Sparkle and Shine where Paulina is a sponsor.

In addition to blogging Paulina has a sequin and die online store. I cannot wait till I get my Big Shot, as I have all her dies on my wish list. Oh, summer please come quicker! just about 7 more weeks!!

Now time to get to know Paulina a little better.

1. How long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging for off and on since 2008.

2. What made you start blogging?
I started blogging as a way to participate in card challenges and write down random thoughts.

3. Do you remember your first blog post, if so what was it?
Yes, funny enough, it was about my favorite Starbucks drink at the time!

4. Do you blog full time or is it a hobby?
Blogging isn't my full-time job, per se. I started blogging casually and then it turned into something I did more regularly and slowly, as my following grew, I turned it into a job and from that, launched my business. It's the typical one thing led to another scenario... (though it took many years to get there).

5. Who is your favorite blogger?
I can't say I have a favorite blogger. So many of my friends are bloggers, so it would be like picking a favorite friend.

6. What is your favorite social media?
Instagram and Facebook are my favorite social media platforms. I love how visual Instagram is,but I like the community that Facebook brings.

7. What is your favorite crafting tool?
Oh, that's a hard one. I would say it's my Big Shot machine.

8. What is your favorite season or holiday to blog about?
I really love blogging about Christmas and everything surrounding it. Whether it be the cards, the shopping, or random encounters that happened during that season- it's all special.

9. Something that you can't live with out?
My phone

10. Any words for new and aspiring bloggers?
Keep blogging, even when you feel like no one reads your posts. It took years before I gained any sort of "following" and I still have a ways to go before I reach my dream following. Perseverance and determination is key.

Here are just a few of my favorite cards from Paulina. Be sure to check out her blog and youtube channel!

1. Love the layered stamping on this card. (details here)
2. I want this stamp set, like NOW. And a few copics :D (details here)
3. This card is prefect for graduation! Aren't the monster so cute! (details here)
4. Layering sequins like this is so much fun, kind of therapeutic too. (details here)
5.  As soon as I get my hands on some dies, I am making this one. (details here)
6. Just when you thought her cards were amazing, she starts party planning! (details here)

Enjoy!

Theme Week 1 : Day 1 of Mother's Day Cards

Welcome to (hopefully) the first of many theme weeks here on the blog. Maybe I'll even be able to do a food one! I was inspired to do one every since Paulina at Pretty Pink Posh did one for Easter Week a while back. I finally got sometime (midterm out of the way!) to take some time away from the PC screen and create some cards to send out for Mother's day, and I thought why not share as a theme week!

I actually created this card for the Sparkle and Shine Challenge 4, but ended up sharing a different card there, and now I get to share this as part of theme week! The technique used to create the flowers and leaves are the same as the Mother's Day Card that I posted a week or so ago. I have been wanting to create a shaker card for a while, but all the idea I came up with needed a die cut machine, something that I don't have yet. Then I thought! Why not just cut the window using a exacto knife and then cover the edges with a wreath. So I went with it, only problem, the foam tape that I used was not thick enough. So I probably should have doubled it up, to allow the sequins to move around more. (I created another shaker card last week, details here)

To add finishing touches, I covered the entire front of the card base with a green polka dot vellum sheet, then I added some strips of washi tape and the sentiment was added using green glitter and versamark watermark ink. The stamps used are from Newton's Nook Design and the washi tape is from my minds eye.

I'm excited that I finally made a (another) shaker card! It wasn't as complicated as I made it out to be, I think you'll be seeing more here on the blog, just not this week :) But do come back tomorrow as I'll have a brand new card to share!
