#footballsunday 9.0 : Seahawks vs Cowboys Game

I've been wanted to share these pictures with all of you for a while, but just couldn't choose which ones to post from the 100+ pictures that I ended up taking at the game. When you team is losing you have to find a way to entertain yourself :( So today's post is a mash up of Throwback Thursday and Thursday Night Football (whose excited for the thanksgiving game!!).

I'm no pro at taking pictures, but I finally decided to start using my fancy zoom lens. So Enjoy the few "good" shots! Probably the closest I'll get to these players :D

#footballsunday 13.0 : Seahawks "Superbowl" Cookies

So...I was planning to take a week or so off for thanksgiving and finals, but then I went off to Phoenix for a off the hook holiday party, then came back sick and then it got worse. As a result I have been lying around and binge watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix. Then I got bored and thought that I need to get out of bed and get back into a schedule. Starting with the blog :) Welcome back!

For this post I decided to merge together Thursday Night Football, Throwback Thursday and my Seahawks posts to share these cookies that I made for the Superbowl game last year.

This was one complicated project, so much so that I didn't make anything else for pretty much the whole weekend, and it'll be a whiles till I attempt to make another set (maybe when the Seahawks are back in the running for the Superbowl again?)

I don't have that many good pictures, so not going to go into details, just sharing highlights and links.

- I used black (to create grey), blue, green and white food color.

- I got a Seahawks cookie cutter, and hand cut the jersey's cause I couldn't find a small sized cookie set.

- The Seahawks logo was made with help from this tutorial.

- I attempted double decker cookes with the 12's on a square cookie.

You can find my favorite shortbread cutout cookie recipe here and how to make and pipe with royal icing here.

Throwback Thursday 4.0 : Cricket Cupcakes

In case you haven't noticed, the ICC Cricket World Cup is currently going on. A few of my friends had no idea that I watch cricket because of my obsession with the NFL. But I did grow up right next to South Africa and spent every summer break in Bangladesh!

I know that I haven't been on the blog in a while, I have working on a travel post that has been taking a tad bit longer than I expected and I unfortunately have to do HW and job applications :( But I decided to set all the aside and do this quick throwback post.

I made these cupcakes a really long time ago (before I got married!) for father's day, and thought that they would be prefect to share now with all the cricket going on! I might recreate them at some point when I am not as busy, but these old pictures will have to do for now :)

In case you were wondering about the details, I piped some white candy melts on to wax paper. I free handed the designs. Once they solidified, I used food markers to color them in. I remember using the wilton ones, which weren't the best. I now use FooDoodler Markers, which I find are much better :) (you live, you learn!)

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday 5.0 : Spring Cupcakes

Its almost officially spring! But here in the PNW it has been feeling like spring for weeks now! I'm so glad that I didn't buy a new coat and boots this winter, cause I wouldn't have had a chance to wear them at all. But the downside was that I didn't get a chance to go snowboarding even once :(.

I am one week away from spring break!! And just like all my spring breaks thus far, this one is going to be great! I'm so excited that I am having the hardest time concentrating!! In the spirit of spring, today I am going to share some spring theme cakes and cupcakes.

The regular and mini cupcakes are regular vanilla and chocolate cupcakes piped with cream cheese icing tinted with pastel colors. I did not know about the gel food colors back then, I just the pastel set from the local grocery store.

The cake was a carrot cake, with the same cream cheese frosting tinted in only pink. I piped A LOT of rosettes using an open star. For the cupcakes I just went made a bunch of twirls and swirls with a round tip.

I didn't have a huge collection of icing tips, so all the tips are from a decorating set that I got from Bed, Bath and Beyond.

These are really simple, so give them a try and impress your guests at the next spring get together!

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday 1.0 : The "Bangladesh Flag" Cake

While sorting my pictures on computer, I came across a folder full of pictures from way back in the day. Pictures of first baking experiences!

So I thought that I should share with them to show everyone out there, that I too started somewhere to. Perfection (which I am really far away from) takes practice.

This cake is from the one time that I tried to write Bangla in icing!

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday 7.0 : Mother's Day Cookies

One of the very few fun things of being in school for me is having long weekends, every week! And I am looking forward to a week of next week for Memorial Day. Last year I didn't have classes on Mondays, so Memorial day didn't really make a difference!

The down side of being a student means that there is a very thin line between weekdays and weekends, so weekends unfortunately are not for binge watching Netflix and enjoying the weather. But just four more weeks!

But I got some down time today with a trip to Ben Franklin and being treated to lunch! (My friend LL makes great lox bagels!). Then it was back to the usual chores and errands, before sitting down to read a paper and make some slides for an upcoming presentation. But I really didn't want to go to bed without sharing a #tbt, which is more like a #fbf as its pretty much Friday in most of the world!

These cookies and cake pops are the first of their kind! These pictures are from way back, like before I got married! First set of royal icing cookies and cake pops that I made!

Looking back at the pictures makes me laugh at all the things that I didn't know about baking! Like whipping the royal icing and also using candy melts for cake pops.

But I still love sharing these pictures, because it shows you everyone out there, that you have to start somewhere, and the mistakes you make help with gaining experience and becoming a pro (I'm still working on being a pro!)

I made this for Mother's day and I thought its still appropriate to share them as we are celebrating this weekend! And again in June once my mom gets here :)

I hope these and my other #tbt posts inspire you to get into the kitchen and just try!

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday 6.0 : Basketball Cupcakes, Baseball Cookies and Football Cakepops

Schedules are not my strong suite right now. Even without procrastinating I don't have enough hours in a day to get things done. I'm currently working on my capstone project, a paper presentation and a programming assignment, and there is a book report that I should be doing, but haven't even gotten past the first page. Oh yeah, seeing as I am graduating, I am supposed to be looking for a job too. Yes, this is what life looks like 8 weeks before graduation.

Enough complaining, let's throw it back now. Way back to when I didn't have a job or go to school and spent most of the time in my kitchen experimenting. These goodies were made for my brother in law's 16th birthday. Both baking goodies and making cards for boys is my weakness. I am all about butterflies and flowers.

So after I could not come up with a very creative idea, I decided to go with a sports theme. And then I went a tab bit over bored with the goodies.

The cupcakes are decorated with orange frosting piped with black frosting. I went with store bought black frosting as my homemade attempts resulted in either grey or a dirty purple color.

The cake pop were made with the extra cupcakes crumbled with leftover frosting, coated with chocolate candy melts and piped with white candy melts.

Lastly the cookies are circle shortbread cookies, topped with white royal icing and piped with some icing tinted with red gel icing.

Hope these inspire you to make your own goodies! And hopefully I will have time to recreate them and take better pictures this summer!

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday 2.0 : The "Race Track" Cake

I'm back with another blast from the past. For some reason I still remember the time my mom asked me to make this cake, it was right before finals week and I really wasn't interested in decorating a cake (yes! I have those days too.)

So, I decided to take the easy way out and used this magazine clipping as inspiration. Yes, I still have the clipping too! Trust me I'm as surprised as you are :)

You too can recreate a simple cake like this within a few minutes too!

Details of the cake:
- 10 inch circle cake
- topped with chocolate frosting
- "tracks" piped with white frosting
- "grass" is coconut flakes tinted green with food color
- lastly the "rocks" are m n m's

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday 3.0 : The Superbowl Treats

Keeping with the Seahawks/Superbowl theme, I'm throwing it way back to my the first time I went to a Superbowl party (2011) and the first time I hosted (2012). My treat from 2013 is shared here and last year's (2014) can be here.

Yes I hoard pictures from really long ago, you'll be amazed at how many bad pictures I am holding on to. I think they remind me of where I started and I as I might have mentioned earlier, I share them to show that everyone starts some where. Hopefully this encourages one of you out there to try something new :)

Time to walk down memory lane...

Time to start working on this year's treats! What are your plans for the big day?
